Our skills in research
Baseline data
Before starting upon a new initiative, some background research may be
needed to establish a baseline or determine the potential need amongst the
intended target group. We offer a wide variety of survey techniques and advice
as to their suitability in specific situations.
Pilot studies
A pilot programme is often useful. You may need to check the viability of
your idea or provide evidence to support an application for additional
resources. We can -
- help plan the programme
- advise on the experimental design
- undertake the fieldwork
- analyse the data
Reviews
You may need a review of the technical background to a particular issue. We
can -
- research and collate the information
- draft the document and, if required,
- Organise layout design and artwork

Our recent work
Our recent work includes -
School Travel Plans - a qualitative review
The key purpose of the review is to explore how integral the travel plan is to
the ethos of schools. It is being undertaken sympathetically and supportively with a view to enhancing the service already
provided by the Council to schools.
Motorcycle Action Plan
Motorcycle KSI casualties represent 19% of all KSI casualties but only about 1% of road traffic. We are working with two local authorities
to develop their Motorcycle Action Plan, an integral part of the second LTP.

Alcohol ignition interlocks
We were part of a consortium, led by the Traffic Injury Research
Foundation of Canada, undertaking a DfT-funded research project on alcohol
ignition interlocks. This project ended in Summer 2007.

16+ accessibility to education
The Buckinghamshire Lifelong Learning Partnership
wanted to study the transport needs of students aged 16+. Focus groups were
run to determine the key issues from which a questionnaire was devised.
An initial survey was conducted with all 16 year olds in the County to determine
if transport was a factor for students when making choices about further
education opportunities. In Spring 2006, the same students were surveyed again about their actual experiences of post-16 education travel.
