Training
We offer training courses for road safety professionals on behalf of both Road Safety GB and the Pan London Road Safety Steering Group. These courses are run jointly with TMS Consultancy. We also run tailor-made short courses for local authority, police and fire and rescue service (FRS) staff.
Phase 2 Training
The National Staff Training Group (NSTG) within Road Safety GB aims to act as a focus for information and knowledge on issues relevant to Road Safety Officer education, training and continuous professional development.
In 2000, the Group tendered out the Road Safety Phase 2 course to TMS Consultancy and RSN Associates. They work closely with us to ensure the course is appropriate and satisfies the needs of Road Safety Managers in delivering a broad Road Safety course. NSTG will continue to operate the Road Safety Phase 2 course in this manner.
This course is designed for new entrants to the profession who have already completed Phase 1 or have 6-12 months on job experience. A limited number of places are also available for police officers or military staff with a road safety responsibility.
Each delegate has opportunities to learn from experienced tutors and discover together how people work in other organisations. Delegates learn through doing rather than listening. The modules consists of a combination of formal listening and practical activities, including discussions, group work and on site work.
Courses are held at the The Swan's Nest Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon. They are normally run twice a year. The next course will be held on 1 - 5 November 2010. For further details or to make a booking, contact TMS Consultancy.
Phase 2 Training in London
A Phase 2 course specifically for London road safety professionals is held annually, usually in early summer.
Organised on behalf of the Pan London Road Safety Steering Group, the four-day course is FREE of CHARGE to all those employed by London Borough Councils, Transport for London, Metropolitan Police and other London Authority Organisations.
The course has been modified to reflect London issues and features a number of speakers from London Boroughs.
One of the key elements of the course is to allow delegates to question and reflect on current practices in a non-threatening atmosphere. That includes questioning tutors - who are not there to tell delegates how everything should be done. Delegates will be encouraged to assess their own approaches to road safety issues and how improvements can be made. The key approach is to allow delegates to learn through doing as well as listening - but listening to other delegates is equally as important as listening to the tutors. Contact TMS Consultancy for further details.
Delivering road safety in the future
This is a two day residential course aimed at road safety professionals who have already attended a Phase 2 course or who have at least three years experience.
The key aim of the course, run in conjunction with TMS Consultancy, is to explore how best to address the challenges beyond 2010 and identify the opportunities for delivering road safety in the future. As well as an update of current issues delegates will be given the opportunity to share working practices and explore ideas with other road safety professionals.
The next course will be held on 25-26 January 2011. For further details, contact TMS Consultancy.
