Who we are

RSN Associates LLP was established by Valerie Platt and Andrew Clayton. Together they offer over 50 years experience in the fields of road safety and road safety education.



Valerie Platt MA BEd

Valerie Platt Valerie has worked in road safety since the mid 1980’s. She has particular expertise in the research, development and evaluation of education initiatives. Valerie has managed contracts for local authorities, government departments and commercial organisations. She is the author of several educational resources including On the Move... (AA Foundation for Road Safety Research 1995) and Making Choices (DfT 2001).
More recently, she has been an advisor to a scrutiny commission and assisted local authorities in assessing their current ETP strategies and planning future initiatives.

Valerie has also organised national training events and continues to play a major role in Phase 2 road safety officer training. She has also contributed to the working group on NVQs for road safety staff.

Andrew Clayton PhD FIHT

Andrew Clayton Andrew has over 35 years experience in the field of road safety research. His particular expertise lies in research into and analysis of road safety issues. He has undertaken a review of road traffic law for the European Commission (DG VII), and acted as a specialist adviser to a House of Lords Select Committee.

His recent research projects cover topics as diverse as attitudes to speed cameras, an evaluation of a Theatre in Education production and the road crossing behaviour of five year-olds. Reecently he was the UK Project Manager for a DfT-funded demonstration project on alcohol ignition interlocks led by the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (Canada).
